Ethnic Notions (1987)

African America activist and film-maker Marlon Riggs was the mastermind behind the following documentary Ethnic Notions (1987), “which examines anti-Black stereotypes that permeated popular culture from the ante-bellum period until the advent of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.” A fantastic, educational commentary on racist imagery in the USA, to complement lesser known European discourses, this documentary elucidates the domination of USA rhetoric in critical race theory, alongside providing a socio-political explanation for the fight against blackface.
